Discover the heart of the Yorkshire Dales at Firebox Cafe at Stage 1 Cycles, a hidden gem nestled in the charming town of Hawes (DL8 3NT, United Kingdom). This unique café is more than just a stop for a quick bite; it’s a delightful retreat for both cyclists and casual visitors alike, offering a warm, inviting atmosphere that encourages you to relax and enjoy the moment.

The café stands out not only for its friendly staff but also for its outstanding home-cooked food. Much like the surrounding landscape, the menu is diverse and appealing. With a variety of options ranging from toasted sandwiches piled high with fresh ingredients and a side of crunchy coleslaw to delicious homemade cakes, every dish is crafted with care. Patrons rave about their experience — Catherine Allen, for instance, describes Firebox as a "great place to stop for a brew & something to eat," emphasizing the delectable, comforting nature of the offerings.

The ambiance is equally inviting, adorned with cycling memorabilia that sparks joy and nostalgia, creating a unique environment that resonates with bike enthusiasts and casual diners alike. Imagine sitting back, savoring a large slice of tiffin like John Barr did, with your senses tingling from the rich flavors and the delightful banter of staff members who are genuinely passionate about their work. As Tim Hill noted, the staff’s extensive knowledge of both the menu and the local area enhances the overall experience, making you feel right at home.

Firebox Cafe also serves as a fantastic pit stop for those exploring the stunning trails of the Dales. Located just a short walk from Hawes, it’s the perfect place to recharge after a scenic walk, much like Stephen Townsend, who regularly stops in after his outdoor adventures. With comfortable seating, reading materials readily available, and an emphasis on community and relaxation, this café is designed for those who appreciate the simple pleasures of life — great food, great company, and a cozy atmosphere.

Before you leave, be sure to try their notable coffee blends, which pair perfectly with any of their mouthwatering homemade cakes. Just keep in mind, as Lee Ashworth advises, that kitchen service winds down at 3 PM, so plan your visit accordingly to indulge in the full experience.

Whether you're a cyclist, a hiker, or just passing through, make Firebox Cafe at Stage 1 Cycles a must-visit destination on your journey through the Yorkshire Dales. You won't just find coffee and cake, but also a warm welcome and a genuine taste of local life that will leave you wanting to return again and again. So, grab your friends and stop by — every visit promises to bring fond memories and delicious surprises!

Well here I am again in one of my favourite areas of the Yorkshire Dales... This is a great place to sit and relax with a coffee and cake after a walk from Hardraw over the fields into Hawes, I call in here which is just a 10min walk from the centre of Hawes on the way back to my Motorhome... There's plenty of literature to read and a good selection of food to choose from... It's very comfortable with very pleasant staff... There's renovation work being done on the outside of the building at the moment, but don't let this put you off as the Café is still open... There's a charge in the car park but this is very reasonably priced... Well worth visiting if you're in the area...

Such a great place to have a cup of tea and a piece of cake - actually, it was a large slice of tiffin, more than enough for one. There is a museum next door. Well worth coming a short walk away from Hawes to find

Called in here on the way back to the Hawes Caravan and Motorhome site, had lovely toasted sandwiches with coleslaw and salad ,coffee and homemade cakes, very friendly staff ,unique cafe, full of cycling accessories and memorabilia, just to note, food stopped being served here at 3 pm as with most places in Hawes. Scaffolding on the outside ,comes across as the cafe is closed, but they were definitely open, entry through the museum or the cycle shop

Brilliant lunch at Stage 1 cafe, in Hawes. Superb service from the young lady at the counter. Delicious homemade brownie. Very good sausage & bacon sandwich. Really good coffee. Reasonable prices. Dog friendly. Quirky venue.
